About Me

This is the needlessly self-indulgent part of the website, where I tell all of you, all about ME!

I was born, quite long ago, somewhere far down South, near London. I don't remember much about it. I grew up in a small town in Holland called Nieuw-Vennep, before my parents emigrated back to the United Kingdom. I have lived here ever since.I spent five years living in the Granite City, Aberdeen, where I completed my undergraduate degree in geography. I quite liked it there, despite it being far too cold, grey and rainy. Currently (2006-2007), I am doing a masters degree in GIS at the University of Edinburgh.

I enjoy playing hockey, and am currently playing for the mighty AUMHC, or Aberdeen University Mens' Hockey Club, as I have done for the past four years. As with most sports clubs, though this one I suspect more so, I enjoy a healthy social life, consisting of mainly drinking in our sponsors bar. When I'm not playing hockey, or getting drunk with hockey, I enjoy watching football (I support Arsenal for my sins), a dose of computing, or enjoying the outdoors (hill walking etc.)

Onto arts, I enjoy a wide range of music, which your average critic likes to term pop. So from No Doubt to Sheryl Crow, and Britney to Dire Straits - I love it all. I've not seen many acts live, but I did recently see Lenny Kravitz; He was amazing! In terms of literature, I enjoy a good fantasy book (Anne McCaffrey, Terry Goodkind, Terry Pratchett) but on days when im feeling less tired, some popular science (Bill Bryson, Simon Winchester and many others). I also read The Economist and TIME because I'm a news geek, and especially enjoy the journalism of the likes of Robert Fisk etc.

I've recently returned from the magnificent continent of Australia, where I spent some time working and travelling. There are a large number of photos in the photo section. I'm now some three months into my Masters degree (MSc GIS), and while it's an incredible amount of work - I'm really enjoying it.
